Book Early

Usually, couples book their wedding vendors (caterer, floral designer, event rentals, music, etc.) 8-12 months before the date of their wedding, and they should do the same with their wedding cake. Don’t wait until the end, book at least 6 months out, it’s never too early!

Wedding cakes are not cheap

As a general rule, I tell couples that the cost of a wedding cake is equivalent to buying every wedding guest a glass of wine at a bar or dessert at a restaurant. Sometimes couples have sticker shock when they see the cost of a wedding cake, which is why they should break the cost down by guests.

The cost of the wedding cake is incredibly reasonable and significantly less than when compared to the amount of money a couple is spending per guest on the venue, dinner/appetizers, alcohol, event rentals, flowers, DJ/band, etc.

Don’t be fooled

Making a wedding cake is time-consuming and takes years of training. There are many bakers who say they can make cakes, decorations, and designs that they can’t. First, check out the Instagram and website of local bakers that a couple is considering for their wedding cake. Second, find inspiration pictures to show the baker.

The wedding invitation venue, brides dress and other personal details are a great inspiration for a wedding cake.

Only hire a baker who will meet directly with a couple in person to discuss the wedding cake design, and hold design calls or meetings in the months leading up to the wedding.
